3/365

Today was a rainy, gloomy day. I considered going to find a spot to shoot outside anyway. I always avoid shooting indoors. Probably because I haven't taken the time to learn how to do it well. Since a goal of this project is to become a better photographer, I must force myself to do things I don't want to do, right? Here is your third shot.

For this shot, I ventured over to Redbud Isle park off of Redbud Trail. As I began to walk carrying my camera bag and tripod, I immediately noticed a beautiful spot on the bank of the river about 30 yards up and to the right of the parking lot. There were giant granite rocks, beautiful green trees and perfectly calm and peaceful water. This was my first shot where I set up the camera and ran the entire show by myself. Aside from huge dogs running past me to jump and play in the water, come back up and shake all over the place, the shoot was pretty simple. What a beautiful spot!

Inspired by Alex Stoddard's 365-day project of shooting something new and creative each day of the year, I have decided to embark on my own 365-day journey. His portfolio is so creative. He is only 17 years old and for him to create something this incredible is so inspiring to me. The only rule I have set for my project so far is that there has to be a person in each picture. Sometimes it will be me, sometimes it will be a friend who I can convince to pose for me. When it's me, I will set the camera up and use remote to take the shots. I would like to create a collection of photos that have some sort of theme or capture an idea. They will not all be flattering or beautiful or glamorous or typical. That's not what this is about; this is about creating art. This is in effort to become a better photographer, learn how to manipulate light and hopefully create something amazing.

This first shot was taken near the Tom Miller Dam off of Redbud trail near Lake Austin Blvd. Kayleigh came with me to help give me advice with posing and to hold the camera/tripod so it did not tumble down the concrete bank into the river. And here is your first shot.
